Descendants of William Ducksbury

Notes

1. William Ducksbury

From register of the parish church of Kendal "William DUCKSBURY, Batchelor of the Parish of Penwortham in the County of Lancaster and Sarah Atkinson DOCKER, of this Parish, were married by Licence 2nd August 1813"

Both parties signed the register and there were 3 witnesses. The 1st is illegible, 2nd "Thos Jackson" and 3rd "Joseph Garnett", the last one is maybe a church official as he is a common witness in the register.

1813: LAN Penwortham At marriage. (Source: ChReg.)
1841C: WES Kendal (Far Cross Bank) With spouse and children. Fancy weaver (age given as 50).
1851C: WES Kendal (Far Cross Bank) With spouse, daughters, and visitor William Littlewaite (b 1848 LAN Liverpool). Hand loom weaver.
Occupation: Weaver. (Source: MCert. For marriage of daughter Alice.)

NB. Cant find any records of Ducksbury's at Penwortham and some of the parish records for St Mary's (CofE) where destroyed in a fire in 1856. It may be that William lived there for a while before moving to Kendal but was born elsewhere in neighbouring parishes, eg Ribchester.

NB. Some discrepency on age. His tombstone gives age 70 in 1855 but it isnt his tombstone as he's burried in parish church just prior to graveyard being closed to further burials and parkside cemetry opening, hence he gets a mention on a relations grave. The 1841 census give 50 which matches witht he Ribchester birth records.

Sarah Atkinson Dacre

There is confusion as the names Dacre and Docker are often used interchangebly the same way Duxbury and Ducksbury are. Sarah also is mentioned as Sarah Atkinson on the marriage records but that was third party information and doesnt appear in any other documentation.

The surnames Docker and Atkinson go back in Crosthwaite to around 1500's, see http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=49310 for details of 'Crosthwaite and Lyth'
